| Breaking News | | Thursday, April 26th, 1962: Red Sox Gorman Hurt "It was kinda freaky. Hopefully, I'll be back in the lineup soon," said a dejected Tom Gorman after injuring himself in a game against Cleveland. The Boston manager told reporters, "He will miss up to 1-2 weeks with a tender shoulder." The Red Sox are expected to announce a roster move in the next day or two.
Gorman has taken the mound for 8 relief appearances this season, nailing down 1 save while notching a 2-1 record with a 1.10 ERA. The Boston reliever has limited opposing batters to a .180 batting average. | | Wednesday, April 4th, 1962: Red Sox Clemente and Indians Witt Suspended for Fight Sometimes on the baseball diamond disparaging words are uttered in anger and lead to more than what the players bargained for. That what happened at yesterday's Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians game at Fenway Park II. What started off as a war of words ended up a tag team match as both clubs rushed on the field to defend their honor. When the umpires sorted it all out, they ejected Boston's Roberto Clemente and Cleveland's George Witt from the game for their roles in starting the melee.
Today the players were notified by the league office that they had been suspended 9 games for violating league rules.
| | Saturday, March 3rd, 1962: Red Sox Lose Perry for Season Boston starting pitcher Gaylord Perry could miss the remainder of the season because of back spasms. He exited yesterday's Cleveland game after injuring himself while throwing a pitch. The original diagnosis said Perry would be out 12 months. Later on his doctors said he could be out even longer.
"He's done," his manager commented at the BNN press conference. "It's a season-ending injury, but it could have been worse. It's not the worst-case scenario, so we're happy about that."
