Tuesday, May 1st, 1962: NL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Manny Jimenez was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old left fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's National League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 26 games Jimenez batted .375 for Cincinnati, slapping 36 hits in 96 at-bats with 4 home runs, drove in 15 runs and scored 16 times.

Thursday, March 22nd, 1962: Reds Nixon Down with Injury
Willard Nixon of the Cincinnati Reds could be headed for the disabled list after suffering a tender shoulder in a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is expected to miss at least 1-2 weeks. The Cincinnati starting pitcher was injured throwing a pitch.

Thursday, October 5th, 1961: Orioles Win World Championship
At Memorial Stadium today Baltimore outclassed the Cincinnati Reds 3-1 and won the Cooperstown Chronicle Baseball League World Championship for the 2nd time in its club history.

The Orioles rounded out the 1961 season with a 88-66 mark and wound up in first place in the American League AL West pennant chase.
