Tuesday, May 1st, 1962: Short - NL's Best Starter
Chris Short took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the National League Pitcher of the Month award for April.

The 24-year-old Pirates starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-1 won-lost record in 6 starts. He has fanned 36 batters in 41.2 innings and sports a 1.51 ERA.

Monday, April 30th, 1962: Snider of Pittsburgh Crowned Best Player
His critics are starting to suggest that Pittsburgh's Duke Snider doesn't have much left, but the 35-year-old Snider prefers not to think that way. He cooked up a remarkable week in the last seven days, topping it off with the Player of the Week Award in the National League.

The veteran center fielder for the Pirates rolled to a .650 average (13-20) with 2 home runs and 11 RBIs.

Currently Snider has 6 home runs and a .436 batting average.
Friday, April 27th, 1962: 5-Hit Blitz by Pittsburgh's Snider
It was a sensational day at the plate for Duke Snider as he led the charge to a 11-1 win over the Cardinals.

The Pittsburgh center fielder was pure misery for the St. Louis pitching staff. He left them shellshocked with 5 hits in 5 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting.

The manager for the Cardinals told BNN reporters after the game, "Snider put the ball into play. He really hit it hard. When you do that, you've got a pretty good chance to do some damage. And that's what happened. I feel like we threw some pretty good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball."

D. Snider hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run single in the 8th.

Snider is hitting .443 so far this season with 32 RBIs and 22 runs scored. He has 43 hits including 6 home runs, 15 walks and .513 OBP.
