| Breaking News | | Friday, April 27th, 1962: 5-Hit Blitz by Pittsburgh's Snider It was a sensational day at the plate for Duke Snider as he led the charge to a 11-1 win over the Cardinals.
The Pittsburgh center fielder was pure misery for the St. Louis pitching staff. He left them shellshocked with 5 hits in 5 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting.
The manager for the Cardinals told BNN reporters after the game, "Snider put the ball into play. He really hit it hard. When you do that, you've got a pretty good chance to do some damage. And that's what happened. I feel like we threw some pretty good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball."
D. Snider hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run single in the 8th.
Snider is hitting .443 so far this season with 32 RBIs and 22 runs scored. He has 43 hits including 6 home runs, 15 walks and .513 OBP. | | Friday, April 27th, 1962: Great Day for Shetrone -- 5 Hits "Ever since I picked up my first bat my coaches were always saying to keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing... just make contact and ya never know what'll happen," Pittsburgh's Barry Shetrone told reporters after the game. "That's all I did today. I made contact and it turned out well."
It definitely turn out well for Shetrone today as he collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats against St. Louis. It turned out well for his team, too, as the Pirates knocked off the Cardinals 11-1 at Forbes Field.
B. Shetrone hit a solo-shot off L. Hittle in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off O. Pena in the 8th.
In this current campaign Shetrone is hitting at a .159 clip with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs. | | Sunday, April 22nd, 1962: Adcock out One Week Watching Joe Adcock getting helped off the field today at Sportsman's Park IV, fans of the St. Louis Cardinals feared the worst. The news wasn't quite as bad as initially feared, but the left fielder will miss one week with a fractured hand. "We feel we've dodged a bullet. When you see a guy break down like that, you worry right away," a team spokesman said. Adcock suffered the injury being hit by a pitch in the game against the Giants.
Presently Adcock is batting .292 with 21 hits and 7 home runs. He has knocked in 20 runs and scored 14 times. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 3.0 GB | | Record at home | 8-6, .571 PCT | | Record on the road | 5-9, .357 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 1-1, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 3-4, .429 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 3-2, .600 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 10-13, .435 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 12-15, .444 PCT | | Record in May | 1-0, 1.000 PCT |
